Chateau de Neuilly la Foret is 40 minutes from the ferry ports at either Cherbourg or Caen. Both ports have cross channel ferries to and from Portsmouth or Poole with either P & O Ferries or Brittany Ferries. Between April and September the fast ferry takes approximately 2.5 hours. All other day time cross channel ferries take approximately 4.5 hours; night time ferries take about 6 hours.
Paris is under 3 hours by car whilst there are airports at both Caen and Cherbourg. Neither has scheduled flights from the UK. A fast train service from Paris stops at Lison which is 15 minutes from Chateau de Neuilly la Foret. Travel time by train from Paris is 3 hours. However, given the location of the chateau it is sensible to have the use of a car. Driving directions from the ports are given below.
Driving instructions from Cherbourg
On leaving the ferry port take the N13 sign posted to Caen. After approximately 45 kilometres turn onto the N174 sign posted to St. Lo. Approximately 7 kilometres after this turn left onto the D148 (sign posted to Neuilly la Foret).
Driving instructions from Caen
On leaving the port take the road to Caen. and on reaching the Caen ring road follow the signs to Bayeaux and Cherbourg. Leave the ring road on the N13, again sign posted to Bayeaux and Cherbourg. After approximately 60 kilometres turn onto the N174 sign posted to St. Lo. Thereafter the directions are the same as those for Cherbourg.
Detailed travel instructions are provided in a post booking information pack.
PS People who don’t mind a longer drive on arrival in France might consider the faster rail and ferry services from Dover and Folkestone to Calais and Boulogne.
